Are Nice People Going to Ultimately Win?

Are the people who do good deeds a blessing, a blessing-in-disguise or a plain pain-in-the-you-know-what?

“Nice people finish last” says a T-shirt, while another proclaims “I don’t care about being nice… just finishing”.

So, it’s true that niceness is passé? Or, as my mother and grandmother always used to say, you can make the world a little better by being nice, or at least, you can’t make it worse?

In this respect, it’s refreshing to have found this post at the Simpleology blog by Bean Jones:

======================================

I’m a regular commuter and I’ve seen a lot of people get nasty while in transit. There are those who shove like mad at rush hour and those who “steal” the cabs you hail. But before you despair entirely, be assured there are still some kind souls out there.

The other day for example, I saw a young woman give her cab to an old man. As the cab sped off with the grateful gentleman, the young woman’s friend, who was standing on the sidewalk with her, said irritably, “You can’t be too kind all the time!”

Was the young woman’s friend right?, I wondered. Is being kind all the time really a bad thing?

In the past, I myself have been guilty of chiding some of my friends for being “too nice.” After all, in this highly competitive world we live in, we’re taught to believe that nice guys and gals always finish last.

So, I decided to do a little research into the concept and it turns out several experts have undertaken studies that prove nice guys and gals may very well rule the world. Here’s why:

1. They take control. In Kindness: Changing People’s Lives for the Better, Zelig Pliskin, an Orthodox rabbi, says that being kind “helps you feel in control.” By doing a good deed, you’re saying, “Here’s something I can do to make the world better.”

2. They’re on a high. Each time you do a kind deed, you get “a rush of endorphins that lasts for hours,” says trainer Kimberly Kingsley, author of The Energy Cure: How to Recharge Your Life 30 Seconds at a Time. (By the way, this endorphin surge is aptly named “helper’s high.”)

3. They’re the fittest. Allan Luks, the former executive director of the Institute for the Advancement of Health, undertook a kindness study for his book, The Healing Power of Doing Good: The Health and Spiritual Benefits of Helping Others. His survey of 3,000 volunteer workers revealed that these kindhearted people were able to overcome health problems–like ulcers, respiratory ailments, and stress–right after they played Good Samaritan.

Still, you must keep in mind that the acts of kindness that you do should really matter. “Passing out smiley-face stickers or leaving lucky pennies on the sidewalk may not yield fulfillment,” says University of Virginia psychologist Jonathan Haidt, author of The Happiness Hypothesis. Thus, he recommends choosing deeds that strengthen social ties. After all, as he put it, “it’s really all about building relationships.”

So, the next time I hear someone getting flak for being “too kind,” I’ll step in and set the record straight. The world needs all the nice people it can get.

======================================

So, what do you think? Are nice people going to ultimately win?

A Recording Way Before ‘The Secret’ has the Key for Success

The late Earl Nightingale recorded ‘The Strangest Secret in the World’ in 1956. Story (or legend?) has it that it is the best-seller non-musical record of all times. No wonder. It reveals what’s the real secret of success (and it does it fifty years before The Secret, The Key and The Attractor Factor).

He starts quoting Dr Albert Schweitzer (I hope I wrote his name right), the Nobel Prize winner, saying that what’s wrong with men (and women) today is that they don’t think. And that’s about what he wants to talk… (how’s that for a very strong introduction?).

Listen to this 39-minute recording clicking here.

Prosperity Mindset vs. Saving-Pennies Mindset, by Mike Dillard

Mike Dillard sent me this post via email. He establishes very valid points about having and displaying a Prosperity Mindset. You need to read the entire article and, please, do not be offended by his assertion about not shopping at Wal-Mart or clipping coupons. It’s just an example. Consider the big picture and the teachings. Those are the main important points of this post.
Also, don’t forget to get his Magnetic Sponsoring System (full disclosure: this is NOT an affiliate link).
Yours in success (and in prosperity),
Jorge Pinkus
Your Maximum Success Coach
=====================================
I hate shopping at Wal-Mart. It makes me sick to my stomach, but the important part is why… (If you’re going to read this, you need to read the entire article).
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a burning desire to achieve above average financial prosperity… To have the million dollar home on the lake, the cars, and the ability to do anything, or buy anything I want. 100%, pure freedom.
But it’s not just about material goods. Money gives you the freedom, options, and power to have a large and positive impact on society through charity, education, and reform.
Because I have such strong feelings and emotions attached to the desire to achieve wealth and success, I have equally strong feelings of repulsion for poverty and weakness.
Most wealthy and successful people share this repulsion.
Why?
Because they are consciously aware (unlike the majority of society), that thoughts, ideas, and attitudes are real things, and that they are contagious.
You will adopt the ideas, beliefs, and mindset of the people you spend the most time with (including the people found on TV, in books, or on tape), which will lead you to make similar decisions, which will lead you to assume a similar life and lifestyle.
Rich people know this, and they know that a person’s mindset is fluid. It’s always changing with the ideas and interactions it comes into contact with on a daily basis.
This is why rich people protect themselves from everything associated with struggle and poverty.
Ever wonder why they live together in walled communities closed off from the rest of society with massive gates? Ever wonder why they shop at expensive boutiques, fly first-class, stay at $500/night hotels?
Ever wonder why most of them belong to “members only” country clubs?
Is it because they want to enjoy the finer things in life? Well sure. But that’s not the only reason.

They want to protect their minds from the thoughts of  poverty and struggle that are held by the rest of common society because they know that all thoughts are contagious, and they have a burning desire to live un-common lives.

The rich get richer because they only invite and interact with other prosperous people.
The common man sees this behavior as “stuck-up” and “snobby”. The rich simple see it as an unfortunate necessity, as I do.
That’s why I never shop at Wal-Mart. Have I? Yes. But just walking into that store makes me physically uncomfortable. My stomach turns.
I feel that way because I associate that store and the people who shop there with struggle and poverty.
The entire company is designed around the concept of “saving money” and pinching pennies.
It’s a physical monument dedicated to thoughts like…
“I only have this much money, so I need to save as much as I can.”
“The economy is crashing, so I need to guard what little I have.”
“I can’t afford it…”
“We’re on a limited budget.”
That kind mindset is a disease voluntarily held by people who go through life as victims.
They are subservient to their boss, to economic times, to prices, and to money itself.
Money has the power, and they are lucky to acquire and save any that comes their way.
The rich think differently.
They believe and accept that they have the power to change and shape their lives as they wish. Money doesn’t own their lives, they own the money. They have the power.
The difference between these two mindsets can be summed up like this…
Someone with a poverty mentality says, “I can’t afford it”.
Someone with an abundance mentality says, “How can I afford it?”
The more you start to think like the rich, the more appearant this mindset will become to you. One day, you’ll walk into Walmart and you’ll literally FEEL what I’m talking about.
You’ll feel like you’re out of place… Like you’ve walked into a club or restaurant where you’re the one person who doesn’t belong.
Now I know that there are a lot of people out there reading this who DO shop at Wal-Mart and are saying, “that’s easy for you to say Mike. You don’t have a family of 4 to support and you’re not struggling to get this home business thing off the ground anymore.”
Well I have shopped at Wal-Mart and I have been as low as anyone. When you’re pawning your DVD collection to eat as I have, you’ve basically hit the bottom.
But the difference is that even during those times, I have NEVER been comfortable shopping there because in my mind, I was different. I didn’t belong in that store. I didn’t share the same mind-set that the rest of the people in there did.
I have nothing against saving money when you’re struggling. I was there. But I do, and will always wage war against a poverty mentality.

Whether or not you shop at Wal-Mart is not important. Everyone starts from the bottom and does whatever they have to do. Whether or not you are comfortable and happy shopping at Wal-Mart is where your personal truth is found.
If you don’t have the feelings, desires, and aspirations to separate yourself from the crowd of Middle America discount shoppers, then I don’t know why you’re even on this list.
To take this attitude of abundance vs prosperity to another level, I’ve also adopted the following habits:
I never use coupons and I never accept coin change from a purchase. If my bottle of water costs $1.75, the cashier gets $2.00 and keeps the 25 cents.
Why?
Because I NEVER focus on pinching pennies. I focus on MAKING MORE.
I constantly hold an abundance mindset, and these two habits are a physical expression of that mentality that I have held even when I was making $1,500/mo as a waiter. It’s a message to my subconscious mind to always see life through a lens of prosperity.

How to Keep on Being Motivated, by Jorge Pinkus

Motivating yourself… Sometimes, the hows of doing it elludes us at best, or simply we don’t know how to start. We know we want to excel and ti be an example to our colleagues. This should not be something you do only when the spirit moves you. It’s an ongoing process that should include every facet of your business life. This means your mental attitude, physical well-being and appearance, work atmosphere, your interaction with others (clients, colleagues and employees alike), and your off-the-job environment.

Motivational experts agree that to strive for success, you must constantly examine these factors. How do you do that? Follow the 5 tactics below, and start watching the changes:

1. Maintaining a Positive Attitude - Realize that life is only 10% of what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. You are responsible for all your own actions and all your own attitudes, and for changing them when appropriate.

When you are around people and things that are uplifting and positive, you start to feel that way. That’s why it’s very true the old saying: “the company you keep makes you.” Do this and you will have more confidence in yourself, and you will know that you can change whatever it is that needs changing. If you can make your workplace such a place you’ll find happier co-workers and higher production. You might even find your people look forward to coming to work!

2. Leave Personal Troubles Home - Everyone has problems, but they don’t belong at work. Turn your attention and energy entirely to your on-the-job tasks. This will actually be good for you because you’ll get a mental break from your troubles.

3. Create Positive Affirmations - The reason for writing goals for your business is the same as creating positive affirmations on paper. What your eyes see and ears hear, your mind will believe. Try it!

After you’ve written them down, read them aloud to yourself - and do it every morning and everytime you get a chance to do it. You’ll be amazed at what happens. Come up with a set of new ones every month. Statements such as, “I am an important and valuable person,” or “I know I’ll make good use of my time today.” Repeating them out loud everyday at a set time will help reinforce positive actions. And remember to write them in the positive, in present tense and in the first person (”I am now…” is a much better affirmation than “In our group we will not be…”).

4. Make Sure Break Times Are Really Break Times - This is an area where most entrepreneurs and independent salespersons and marketers fall down. You become so intense about the project or situation you’re working on that you don’t ease up. Thinking that it’ll be solved in the next few seconds, and then you’ll get a cup of coffee can lead you right up to quitting time. Regularly adhering to a specified break schedule, even if you’re your own boss, releases the tension. If you work on a computer this is even a greater problem because before you realize it - you’ve been working in that same position for hours. The best answer to this is to set yourself a reminder on your appointment calendar for every 2 hours, and let the computer reminder chime send you the alert to move around.

5. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise - I know that lately it seems that “exercise” is the cure-all to every physical ailment, even to your love life, but despite all that, there is some truth to that “ugly” word. By exercise I don’t mean that you neccesarily should go out and join a gym and spend your lunch-time, 3-days-a-week there working out (but that is not a bad idea, either).

What is really beneficial and workable is that at those chiming alerts from your computer, get up and walk around your desk or room. Maybe go outside and get the mail and enjoy the sunlight (if you happen to have a home office), or just get up and do a few stretches. Concentrated, tense thinking - typing - plotting plans - or whatever your work, makes all those muscles tighten up and knot up.

Then when we move we “ooh” and “ouch” because we’ve knotted up into a ball of tension. Periodic stretching, even at our desk, or just getting up and walking over to the window and getting a different view can help. One of the greatest disservice modern business décor has done to us, is making our offices pristine, sleek, unencumbered spaces. There is nothing more relaxing than getting up from your desk and walking over to a peaceful, serene, seascape or pastoral painting and just drinking it in visually. Momentarily transporting your mind out of work and into that place does wonders. A few good paintings and less shiny chrome in offices would benefit us all.

It only takes a little concentrated effort on our part to keep motivated and productive, which leads to success.

Motivation doesn’t happen by itself. But the great truth is that we can get motivated all day long every day!

More Powerful Than Visualization, by Christopher Westra

This thing that we call Time is only an illusion. The only moment is now. Waiting is a state of mind. Basically it means that you want the future and don’t want the present. The key is to break the old patterns of present moment denial and present moment resistance. - (Dr. Robert Anthony)

Creating reality in the moment is holographic creation. You can also call it manifesting in holographic time. You create what you want on a spiritual level (quantum level), and then it grows until it becomes crystallized into physical reality.

All these ten comparisons between holographic creation and visualization are based in the fact that there is no such thing as time. As Robert Anthony said in the quote at the start of this chapter, “The only moment is now”.

Note – Some people who are skilled at visualization are actually doing holographic creation without knowing it. Visualization (seeing detailed images) is part of holographic creation. This chapter fully explains the differences between the two.

So when I speak of visualization, I’m talking about the limited version of visualization as traditionally taught. Visualization is very powerful for some people precisely because they understand the deeper laws of holographic creation! Now you have these keys to manifestation also!

1. Present vs. Future
Holographic creation is a present activity. You build your creations in the present, not in the future. Your focus is truly in the eternal now. Visualization is future-based. Visualization is focused on a desired future, not on creating something in the present.

2. Actual Creation vs. Pictures
Holographic creation is really creating something. Holographic Creations are real entities. They are made of matter (just a more refined matter – not visible to us now). Visualization works with pictures. Visualizations are images, and are not usually considered as having a real “existence”.

3. Permanent vs. Short Lived
A properly constructed holographic creation has the power of permanence. They have continued existence after they are created. They grow independently while you go on to do other things.

A visualization is short-lived. If all you are doing is visualizing, your visualizations stop living and existing when you stop visualizing. The picture disappears.

4. Multi-Dimensional vs. Two Dimensional
Holographic creation is at least four-dimensional. It is actually a multi-dimensional process (more than four) but four is about all we can understand while in this current time and space game.

Visualizations are two-dimensional. Visual images are merely representations in our mind.

5. Inner World vs. Outer World
Holographic creation is focused on creation in the inner world of thought, light, energy, and sound. In reality, it’s all energy. Youknow that the outer manifestation of your thought creations are simply a natural result of the inner manifestation.

Visualization is focused on outer reality. The focus in visualization is on the physical world, with little or no emphasis on spiritual pre-creation.

6. Emotional Power vs. Detailed Images Only
Holographic creation uses emotion. You can only do holographic creation if you properly use your emotions. You actually feel the emotions you want to feel. The holographic creation sheet helps because you have to actually write down the name of the emotion. You have to decide what emotion you want to feel – confident, joyful, connected, and energetic, and feel the emotion in the present moment!

Visualization doesn’t include emotion. Note - many promoters of visualization have discovered the power of emotions and added this to their visualizing program, which is a great plus. Again – Millions of people have found visualization powerful, and it can be. But millions of others have found no benefit. By itself, visualization doesn’t include all the steps. Some find the keys to effectiveness on their own, and some don’t. Holographic creation contains all the elements, and that’s why it’s so effective at creating what you want in life!

7. Gratitude vs. Grasping
Holographic creation uses gratitude to align your energies. Proper gratitude is an inherent part of holographic creation. Gratitude aligns your energies with the inner world and allows you to manifest in an easy manner. When you decide to create something good in your life, you must be grateful for what you already have in that area of your life. Trying to manifest from a state of total dissatisfaction with your life (ingratitude) is not effective. It also doesn’t reflect the reality of the many blessings you do have.

In visualization there is no emphasis on gratitude. Most often in visualization there is simply wanting, craving, and grasping with no thankfulness for present blessings. You can find things to be grateful for in any area of your life. The holographic creation sheet makes you find these areas because you have to write it down!

8. Hope vs. Doubt
Holographic creation generates amazing hope and confidence. When your energies are aligned, and you absolutely know you are creating in the inner reality, you feel so good! You can feel your creations growing and crystallizing into the “denser” physical reality.

Hope is a full expectation of desirable things to come. With holographic creation, you have this full expectation. Visualization works somewhere between doubt and hope. Most people who practice visualization hardly have that “full expectation” that the things they are visualizing will really become reality.

9. Welcoming vs. Needing
Holographic creation leads to a relaxed welcoming of desires. There is a divine unconcern that is an integral part of manifesting.

HoloCreation naturally produces this mental state. You have confidence because you know the reality of inner creation. This relaxed state leads to peace, oneness, patience, and effective action.Visualization usually stems from a needing, grasping desire. Because there is no work in inner reality, there is often a fear that what one desires will not come to pass. This fearful needing leads to discontent, impatience, hurry, and frantic action.

10. Always Works vs. Sometimes Works
Holographic creation always works. The laws of manifesting physical creation through prior holographic (spiritual) creation always work. You just have to learn the laws and practice the methods.

Visualization sometimes has great results. When visualization “works”, it’s because the individual is naturally and intuitively including many of the elements of holographic creation. Their results will improve by understanding the principles in a conscious way.

How to Stay Positive Everyday All Day Long

I found this post in the Zig Ziglar Newsletter, and I immediately wanted to share it with you, since it is exactly my own philosophy:

====================

Cheerful, Upbeat People Reproduce Cheerful, Upbeat People

[I’ve said that there are great benefits for] greeting people with an enthusiastic “Good Morning!”, even when it’s 8:00 p.m.  The reason is simple: The best way for me to feel upbeat and optimistic is for me to make an effort to make others feel upbeat and optimistic.  Admittedly, on rare occasions I get back a less than chipper reply, but from my perspective that’s their problem and not mine.  For each stinking thinking reply I get, I get back a hundred positive ones.  The other reason I say “good morning” is that I always believe the best part of the day is still in front of me.  As far as I’m concerned, the use of the word “morning” is legitimate.

When someone beats me to the draw and says something like, “Good morning, how are you?” I always respond in one of two ways.  I will either say, “Better than good, and that’s an understatement,” or “Super good, but I’m getting better!”  Almost without exception after an interchange like that the other person is smiling.  When I cause someone else to smile I leave them slightly better than I found them, which makes me feel better.

Phase two of this approach to life is what I say when I part company with an individual. Instead of the usual “Have a good day,” I say, “I’ll see you over the top!”, which also brings a smile.  Just in case you’re wondering if that is the “real world,” my answer is, “You bet it is!”  One of the interesting psychological truths is that logic will not change an emotion, but action will.  This approach is initiating a physical action which will, in fact, make me feel better while also making the other person feel better.  This validates the concept that you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.

Give this approach an honest trial and I’ll SEE YOU AT THE TOP!

William Shatner, Raquel Welch, Joe Vitale and The Secret of Manifesting

When Joe Vitale, probably the most visible of The Secret Teachers out there, sent me this email I knew I had to share it with you…

Besides being extremely funny it’s got some GREAT tips on how and how NOT to apply The Secret of Attraction and Manifesting.

To Your Success Always,
Jorge Pinkus

MESSAGE FROM JOE VITALE

Hey,

Raquel WelchI love the television show Boston Legal. In a recent episode, actor William Shatner, playing egomaniac attorney Denny Crain, sits in a chair, closes his eyes, and tries to attract actress Raquel Welch.

I loved seeing the movie The Secret and the Law of Attraction getting spoofed on national TV. After all, I’m in the movie and love a good laugh, too. Spoofs can be fun.

And that’s what the episode was: a spoof.

At the end of the show Shatner’s character attracts one of the greatest female comedians of all time: Phyllis Diller.

Shatner is shattered.

He thinks “The Secret” didn’t work.

He mumbles, “I’m going to sue those people.”

What did Shatner’s character do wrong?

Why didn’t he attract what he said he wanted?

Here’s my take on it:

1. Shatner’s character sits and concentrates, finger to forehead, and looks like he has a headache. There’s no joy on his face. The Law of Attraction works when you feel the end result of what you want, not just think about it. Denny Crain isn’t even close.

2. Shatner’s character takes no action at all. None. Considering the character he plays, surely he could have picked up the phone and called around. Surely someone in his power circle would be able to connect him to Welch. I could get to Welch if I really wanted to. As you may recall, I’m the guy in the movie and book The Secret who says, “The Universe likes speed. Take ACTION.”

3. Shatner’s character attracts what he thinks he doesn’t want: Phyllis Diller. This is SO relevant. You always attract what you un-consciously think is right for you. In the TV show, Diller is actually an old flame. She represents sex to him, or at least did at one time. This is so Freudian. In order to get what you want, you have to get clear inside of the old programs. Until you do, you won’t get what you say you want, you’ll get what you unconsciously want.

William ShatnerFinally, Shatner’s mumble at the end about suing “those people” is also revealing.

It shows Shatner’s character is still a victim, powerless to the world unless he resorts to the one thing he can trust: the legal system.

Again, I loved the episode on Boston Legal.

Just remember it was a spoof.

If you want to use The Secret to attract what you want, focus on your intention, add feeling, take action and enjoy the process.

And then maybe you can attract Raquel Welch.

Dream Big!

Dr. Joe Vitale
PS — Attracting Phyllis Diller is not a bad thing. This brilliant comedian used to make me laugh when I was a kid watching TV. She still makes me laugh. She also learned about success from the same book I did: The Magic of Believing. She looks radiant even today, when she’s close to 90 years old. You keep rocking the house, Phyllis.
